HOUSTON - Freshman Phillip George hit a free throw with 1.3 seconds to play to break a 56-56 tie and lift the Louisiana College men to a 57-56 win over NAIA St. Thomas in the Wildcats' season opener.
LC, which was paced by the 21-point, 10-rebound double-double of Jalani Mitchell, erased a 56-50 deficit in the last two minutes with three steals that led to three layups prior to George heading to the line.
St. Thomas had a chance to win the game after being sent to the foul line with less than one second to play, but missed both attempts at teh charity stripe to allow LC (1-0) to escape with the road win
