Coach James Wood is a new member of the Louisiana Christian University football coaching staff, but he is no stranger to the institution. A proud LCU alumnus and former player,
Coach Wood graduated in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education, including a teaching certification. With over a decade of coaching experience under his belt, he brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record in defensive strategies to the team.
In 2013, Wood coached Defensive Backs at Breaux Bridge High School. He coached Defensive Backs at Buckeye High School from 2014-2016. In 2017, Wood coached Linebackers at Dumas High School, before moving to Quitman High School in Arkansas as Defensive Coordinator.
Wood moved back to central Louisiana and coached cornerbacks from 2019-2021 at Alexandria Senior High, before joining up with Coach McLaughlin as the defensive coordinator at Buckeye High School in 2022 and 2023.
His coaching philosophy centers on fostering teamwork, instilling a strong work ethic, and guiding players to excel both on and off the field. Coach Wood’s commitment to developing talent and his ability to inspire and motivate have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and players alike. His return to LCU represents a significant asset to the program, promising to elevate the team's performance and contribute to a culture of excellence.
Coach Wood and his wife Emily, a former LCU student herself, are the proud parents of three children. The Wood family is excited to be part of the LCU community once again.
