PINEVILLE, La. – The #20 Louisiana Christian baseball team got two home runs from
Chris Kelley while
Braden Trull added one of his own, but it wasn't enough to overcome an early onslaught by Our Lady of the Lake, falling 15-6 to the Saints in game two of the 2026 Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Tournament, evening the series at 1-1 Saturday afternoon at Billy Allgood Field.
#20 Louisiana Christian (35-12), the tournament's four seed, found itself behind early as Our Lady of the Lake (33-16), the fifth-seed in the tournament field, took advantage of two Wildcat errors in the top of the first inning to plate four runs for a 4-0 lead.
Kelley pulled one of those back as he took the second pitch of the bottom of the second inning and deposited it over the right field wall for a lead-off, solo home run to cut the deficit down to 4-1.
But any LCU momentum from Kelley's first homer of the day was dashed with two outs in the top of the third inning as OLLU got a walk and five straight singles, all with two away, to score five runs in the frame and open a 9-1 lead.
The Wildcats again tried to battle back into the contest in the bottom of the inning. With one out,
Caleb Brown and
Matthew Cody both dropped base hits into left, setting up Trull who lifted the ball towards the right-center gap and saw it carry all the way over the wall for the three-run blast, getting LCU back to within five at 9-4.
But the Saints had an answer again as a pair of one-out RBI doubles plated a trio of runs for a 12-4 OLLU lead as the Wildcats came to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Neither team would score again until the bottom of the sixth inning as Trull led off the frame with a double and
Gavin Vordick brought him home with a two-out RBI single to center, making it 12-5.
Both teams plated one in the eighth inning as OLLU got a two-out RBI double in the top half while Kelley blasted his second home run of the day over the right field wall to make it 13-6 as the game headed to the ninth. In the final frame, the Saints pushed two more runs across while LCU got a runner on via a walk with one out in the bottom half, only for that to turn into a game-ending double play one pitch later.
Kelley's two home runs, both solo shots, were his 11
th and 12
th long balls of the season. He went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Trull was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch. His home run was his fifth of the season and accounted for all three of his RBI and one of his two runs scored on the day.
Brown was 1-for-4, was hit by a pitch, and scored a run.
Cody was also 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Vordick also went 1-for-4 and had a RBI.
Brady Huffman went 1-for-2 at the plate after substituting into the game midway through.
Brandon Carter (8-3) had a rare tough outing, going 3.1 innings while allowing 10 hits and 12 runs, eight earned, with four strikeouts and three walks.
Seth Whitney came on in relief and settled things down, throwing a season-high 4.2 innings and allowed just three hits and one run, which was earned, with three strikeouts and no walks.
Alan Mason threw the ninth inning to close out the game, giving up four hits and two runs, both earned, with no walks or strikeouts.
The Wildcats and Saints will decide their 2026 RRAC Tournament First Round series and determine which team will head to Sterlington for next weekend's Final Round on Sunday when the two teams play game three. First pitch of the rubber game of the series is set for 12 p.m. at Billy Allgood Field.
