WACO, Texas – The #15/#7 Louisiana Christian University women's tennis team got its second Red River Athletic Conference weekly award as
Valeria Callejo was named its Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday.
Callejo, a junior from Madrid, Spain, was instrumental as #15/#7 Louisiana Christian remaining unbeaten in RRAC play with a 6-1 win over (RV) LSU Shreveport during the week.
In doubles play, Callejo teamed with
Raquel Coelho Rodrigues in the number two match-up and took down the LSUS tandem by a 6-3 score. In singles, she then made her way to the number three match-up against the 66
th-ranked player in the NAIA and dominated the match to the tune of a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
This is Callejo's first career RRAC Player of the Week award and LCU's second of the season after her doubles partner, Rodrigues, won the award earlier this month.
The #15/#7 Wildcats (9-3, 3-0 RRAC) head down to New Orleans on Wednesday for a date with #9/#31 Loyola. Opening serve against the #9/#31 Wolf Pack (5-4, 3-0 SSAC) is set for 2 p.m. at the New Orleans City Park Tennis Center.
