Wildcats Fall Under Second Half Rally

LCU's Early Chances Come Up Fruitless in Loss at OLLU

SAN ANTONIO – The Louisiana Christian University men's soccer team was in a 0-0 tie at halftime, but conceded three second half goals, falling to the Our Lady of the Lake Saints 3-0 Monday afternoon at the OLLU Soccer Field.

Louisiana Christian (4-6-2, 1-2-1 RRAC) had the first good opportunity of the match as, in the fourth minute, Gustavo Varnier got on the end of a Juan Sierra corner kick and redirected the cross on goal, but it was swept off the line by an Our Lady of the Lake (5-4-2, 2-2 RRAC) defender. Matej Motycka tried to follow up that shot, but his attempt went high of the goal.

From there, both teams had looks at goal throughout the remainder of the first half, but neither could find the back of the net and the match went to halftime still scoreless.

But the second half belonged to the Saints as OLLU scored in the 52nd and 55th minutes to quickly go up 2-0. The Saints added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute to secure the result.

Sierra took four shots in the match, putting one on goal. Motycka put up three shot attempts, also putting one on target.

LCU took a total of 11 shots in the match, putting four on target.

Ricardo Gross (3-6-2) played the first 80 minutes in net and was credited with six saves but also had the three goals allowed. Tyson Cole came in for the final 10 minutes and did not face a shot. OLLU took 15 shots in the match, putting 11 on target.

The Wildcats look to stop the two-match skid on Saturday as they head to the other side of the Red River take on #24 LSU Alexandria in the annual Red River Rivalry match. Kickoff of Saturday's match against the #24 Generals (7-2-3, 3-1 RRAC) is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Generals Soccer Field.
