Wildcats Open Homecoming Weekend with Sweep of USW

LCU Credited with 12 Service Aces in Straight-Sets Win Over Mustangs

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University volleyball team combined a balanced attack with 12 service aces to sweep the Southwest Mustangs 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-22) on Friday night at Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.

Louisiana Christian (4-12, 3-4 RRAC) opened with its highest kill total of the match, putting down 15 kills with five attack errors on 32 attempts for a .312 hitting percentage. The Wildcats secured the three-point set victory despite Southwest (2-7, 2-7 RRAC) hitting .435, giving LCU an early advantage in a match that included two closely contested sets.

The Wildcats created more separation in the second set. LCU registered 14 kills against just three attack errors, hitting .297 while holding the Mustangs to eight kills and eight errors for a .000 hitting percentage. That combination produced a 25-15 victory and a two-set lead.

LCU completed the sweep with 12 kills in the third set, again winning by three points. Across the match, the Wildcats totaled 41 kills and hit .276. Kourtlyn Smith led the attack with 10 kills, while Holly Rowe added eight and Jalee Flores contributed seven, giving LCU multiple options at the net.

Mallory Wills delivered the Wildcats' most efficient attacking performance, recording six kills without an error on eight attempts for a .750 hitting percentage. Joie Goodwin added five kills on seven attempts and hit .571. Vivien Brouillette contributed four kills and two block assists, helping LCU finish with two team blocks.

Emma Cother coordinated the offense with 33 assists and contributed nine digs, three aces and a block assist. Kylie Elmore and Shanoa Mitch also served three aces apiece. Wills, Yadneli Molina and Alanah Dugar each added an ace to complete LCU's 12-ace performance.

Molina collected seven digs, and Dugar supplied four as the Wildcats finished with 28. Rowe added a block assist, joining Cother and Brouillette in LCU's work at the net.

The Wildcats look to finish the weekend conference sweep of the Mustangs on Saturday as the two teams meet again with opening serve set for 12 p.m. on Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
