SHREVEPORT, La. – The Louisiana Christian University men's basketball team got the best scoring night of the season from
Justice Kelly, but it wasn't enough to overcome #15 LSU Shreveport Pilots who hit nearly 60 percent in the field in a 102-65 loss Thursday night at The Dock.
Louisiana Christian (4-16, 2-12 RRAC) was down seven before
Drew Tebbe hit a jumper to get on the board, starting a 7-2 run as the Wildcats got back within two at 9-7.
LCU tried to keep it close as Tebbe scored three the old-fashioned way to make it 28-22 with 5:30 left before halftime, but #15 LSU Shreveport (16-4, 13-1 RRAC) opened it up by closing the half on a 24-8 run to go up 52-30 at the break and the Wildcats would not be able to get back in it.
Kelly hit nine of his 16 shot attempts to finish with a season-best 28 points. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Tebbe ended the night with 15 points, hitting seven of his 10 field goal attempts. He also grabbed three boards, dished out two assists and had two steals.
Timothy Ferguson came off the bench and hit four of his five shots, including both of his three-point attempts, to score 11 points. He also had two rebounds and two assists.
Ja'Vonte Thomas grabbed seven boards.
The Pilots hit 59.4 percent of their shot attempts from the field and 57.1 percent from deep. LCU connected on 40 percent of its shot attempts, including 17.4 percent on three-point attempts.
The Wildcats now head to Texarkana to wrap up this quick trip up north with a game against Texas A&M-Texarkana. Tip-off of Saturday's contest against the Eagles (12-7, 9-5 RRAC) is set for 3 p.m. at the Patterson Student Center.
