Free Throw Disparity Too Much for Wildcats at OLLU

LCU Holds Saints Without Made Three-Point Field Goal

SAN ANTONIO – The Louisiana Chrisitan University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a 15-point disparity at the free throw line in a 59-49 loss to the Our Lady of the Lake Saints Saturday afternoon at Mabee Gymnasium.

Louisiana Christian (1-14, 0-9 RRAC) scored the game's first points as Carlea Owens put in a lay-up to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. That would be LCU's lone lead in the contest as Our Lady of the Lake (4-12, 3-7 RRAC) scored the next six points to take the lead.

LCU would tie the score back up one more time, that coming in the third quarter as Amiyah Simpkins scored at the rim to end a 7-0 Wildcat run, bringing LCU even with OLLU at 35-35 with 1:40 remaining in the period.

The Saints scored the quarter's last four points to take a 39-35 advantage to the fourth. The Wildcats got the first basket of the fourth quarter, but OLLU scored the next 14 points to pull away at 53-37, eight of those points coming at the free throw line.

Kylei Leblanc collected her eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. She also blocked three Saints shot attempts, dished out a pair of assists, and came up with a couple of steals.

Simpkins was the only other Wildcat to score in double figures with 10 points. She secured five rebounds, got three steals, and had a pair of assists.

M'Kiyiah Olivier came off the bench to put in nine points, six coming off made three-point shots. She also had a pair of steals.

Both teams were equal from the field as both sides made 19 field goals on 60 attempts, an equal 31.7 percent from the field. The only three-pointers made in the game came from the Wildcats as LCU connected on five of its 16 attempts from deep, 31.3 percent, while the Saints missed all 19 of their shot attempts from long range. OLLU made up for that lack of shooting by getting to the free throw line, hitting 21 of its 26 attempts from the charity stripe while the Wildcats made six of their nine foul shots.

With the five-game road trip now complete, the Wildcats come home for four straight, starting on Thursday as North Texas-Dallas comes to Pineville. Tip-off of Thursday's contest against the Trailblazers (7-5, 6-4 RRAC) is set for 5:30 p.m. on Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
