PINEVILLE, La. – A Louisiana Christian University Hall of Famer for her time on the diamond with the Wildcats will now run the team she has been with as a player and coach as Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Reni Mason has named
Mattie Stine the new head coach of the LCU softball team.
"It is a privilege as an administrator to have watched Coach Stine grow from a hall of fame player to an assistant coach and now in her new role as a head coach," said Mason. "It has been a pleasure to watch her development. I am eager to see the next chapter of her service at our institution. She has always had a servant's heart, and I expect her to continue developing young people."
Stine becomes the eighth head coach of the Wildcats softball program since LCU joined NCAA Division III. She becomes the first new head coach of the new NAIA era after her predecessor, Barry Roberts, saw the transition from D3 to NAIA in 2021 during his seven-year run atop the program.
"Louisiana Christian University has always been a part of my redemption story," said Stine. "It is the reason who I am today. It's where God found me, changed me, and gave me new purpose. Now He's allowing me to come back and serve these softball players in the role of head coach."
Stine first arrived in Pineville in time for the 2015 softball season, starting a Hall of Fame-worthy, four-year career with the Wildcats. During her time as a player in the orange and blue, Stine was a .413 hitter with 37 doubles, four triples, and eight home runs for a .573 slugging percentage. She earned multiple All-American Southwest Conference and All-Louisiana accolades and was even named All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2016. All of that led to her being named to the LCU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.
After a year away from the squad following the end of her playing days, Stine returned to the LCU softball team as an assistant coach for the 2020 season. She worked her way up to associate head coach for the start of the 2023 season, and now, after 10 seasons with the Wildcats as either a player or assistant coach, she takes over the head role.
"This job is more than just coaching for me," continued Stine. "It's a calling, it's ministry. My hope is to build a program where people are grounded in Godliness, servant leadership, love, and family. Where each player feels valued, supported, and empowered to grow both on and off the field. Where hearts are transformed, not just by stats tracked, and where Christ is central to everything we do. I am looking forward to loving each of these girls and what we will build together."
Stine's first season leading the Wildcats softball program will start in late January 2026.
