Drama Kings: Cooksey’s Walk-Off Single Sends Baseball To Bracket B Championship

STERLINGTON, La. – The #6 seed Louisiana Christian University baseball program took down its 50th ranked opponent since 1998 (50-109, 31.4%) and 27th at the NAIA level (27-43, 38.6%), in addition to the seventh of its kind in 2025 alone, during a up-and-down thrill ride of a Bracket B Semifinal matchup that ended with a come-from-behind walk-off winner to defeat 14th-ranked and #2 seed UHV, 10-9, to advance to the Bracket B Championship Game.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Harrison Waxley is the early candidate for Bracket B MVP, scorching the Jaguars with a season-best four RBIs during a 4-for-5 masterclass at the plate with all of his base hits being singles.

  • Tyler McKenna did his damage in twos; two hits, both two-baggers, each driving in a pair of runners apiece, for a grand total of four ribbies on the stat sheet for the defending RRAC Tournament MVP.

  • Colton Williams was the recipient of a dub (2-0) in gratitude to keeping the ballgame within reach late thanks to 1.2 shutout innings to close things out, his single blip on the radar being a free pass issued but nullified it with a single strikeout.

  • Braxton Cooksey played the role of hero, coming in cold off the pine to pinch-hit for Gavin Vordick and sent the Cats to the next round, parking a pitch in centerfield as Waxley scored and set off a jubilant celebration.

  • Brady Huffman delivered the tenth run batted in, doing so by putting the ball in play with a run-scoring groundout on top of a double plus a score.

  • The dynamic duo of Adrian Aguilar and Nick Lorio each went 2-of-4 while combining to touch home plate thrice between them.

Next:

  • The Diamond Cats will only need to win once in a best-of-two series versus seventh-seeded Southwest (New Mexico) at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon for the chance at a winner-take-all single game RRAC Championship opposite the other bracket's champion.
