We Going To The Ship: Women’s Tennis One Step Closer To Destiny

SAN ANTONIO, Texas. – The #5 seed Louisiana Christian University women's tennis program had never even won a conference tournament game coming into the weekend but are now closing in on cementing their legacy forever after knocking off the top seed and Red River Rivals from ninth-ranked LSUA in the RRAC Semifinals, punching a ticket to their Championship Game debut with their third consecutive 4-3 victory.

Head Coach Alexandra Starkova's bunch have been giant killers in year two, having upended the following ranked opponents in 2024-25: (RV) LSU Shreveport (February 22), (RV) Our Lady of the Lake (March 2), (RV) Mobile (March 21), #9 LSU Alexandria (April 10), #25 LSUS (RRAC Quarterfinals) and #9 LSUA (RRAC Semifinals); with one more to go Saturday morning.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Seems only fitting that the club's lone senior, Patricia Principal Pineda, was the one to send the Cats to the Championship, breaking the three-all tie on the sixth flight with a 77-65, 3-6, 6-3 triumph over Joline Roesch.

  • Possibly the most impressive singles win came on the three line as Alexandra Cedeno upset the NAIA / ITA's 65th-ranked individual Belen Blasco by a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, margin.

  • #4 Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez was the third singles victor, having an easier time than the other two by outscoring Gianna Panaggio 12-7 (6-4, 6-3).

  • The partnership between Raquel Coelho Rodrigues and Ferrer Martinez on the third doubles flight was enough to power the duo past 40th-ranked team of Blasco and Isabella Stuurman, 6-2.

  • #2 Elizaveta Mikhailova / Adjowa-Sika Geli ensured that all six ladies would play some type of part in the win and point scoring, defeating Roesch / Panaggio by a final tally of 6-3.

Next:

  • One more domino needs to fall for the Court Cats to hoist the trophy, a date with the host and #6 seed Our Lady of the Lake Saints at 9.a.m Saturday morning inside the Blossom Tennis Center located in the Alamo City.
