TYLER, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University women's basketball team got a double-double from
Kylei Leblanc, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats fell to the Texas College Steers 72-61 Thursday night at the Gus F. Taylor Fieldhouse.
Louisiana Christian (1-10, 0-5 RRAC) led by as many and five points in the first quarter as
Carlea Owens hit a pair of free throws to put LCU up 10-5. Texas College (6-6, 4-2 RRAC) then went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for most of the remainder of the contest. A 12-3 Wildcat run in the third quarter led to LCU tying the score back up late in the third quarter at 49-49, but a buzzer beater by the Steers gave Texas College the lead for good.
Leblanc led the way for the Wildcats with 20 points, hitting six of her 11 shot attempts while grabbing 12 rebounds. She also blocked three shots, came up with three steals, and dished out two assists.
Amiyah Simpkins ended the night with 15 points, eight rebounds, came up with four steals, and had an assist.
Owens ended the night with nine points, seven rebounds, two assists, blocked a shot, and came up with a steal.
The Wildcats continue their five-game road trip on Saturday in Hawkins, Texas, taking on Jarvis Christian. Tip-off of Saturday's contest against the Bulldogs (2-10, 1-5 RRAC) is set for 1 p.m. at the Earl W. Rand Center.
