Slow Start Dooms Wildcats in Defeat

LCU Struggles from Field in Loss to Texas A&M-Texarkana

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University men's basketball team struggled to find the range in the early going, leading to a big deficit which could not be overcome in an 87-55 loss to the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles Thursday night at Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
 
Louisiana Christian (1-8, 0-3 RRAC) trailed throughout as Texas A&M-Texarkana (5-3, 3-1 RRAC) scored the game's first 11 points before eventually leading by as much as 29 points, 37-8, with less than six minutes left in the first half.
 
LCU used a 12-2 run to cut that down to 19 points before the half, though the Eagles closed the half's scoring to make it 41-20 at the break.
 
The Wildcats got as close as 18 points several times in the second half, the last as Larry Lee got to the rim for a lay-up to make it 58-40 Eagles with 11:10 remaining in the contest. However, TAMUT pushed its advantage back up, getting it to its peak with two minutes left at 87-51.
 
Drew Tebbe and Joshua Escheik both scored nine points to lead the Wildcats in scoring in the contest. Tebbe added three steals an a pair of assists while Escheik added two steals and an assist.
 
Bryce Weinmunson finished with eight points while leading the team in both rebounds, with nine, and assists, with four.
 
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday when LSU Shreveport comes down I-49 to Pineville. Tip-off of Saturday's contest against the Pilots (6-3, 4-0 RRAC) is set for 3 p.m. at Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
