PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team got a two-goal night from
Emma Hicklin to propel the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over the Texas A&M-San Antonio Jaguars Thursday night at Wildcat Field.
The Wildcats (4-2, 3-2 RRAC) controlled most of the action, taking 10 total shots on the night, putting seven of them on frame. The Jaguars (2-8-1, 1-4 RRAC) were held to four total shots in the contest, putting two on target.
Hicklin's first came in a rather unconventional manner. In the 26
th minute, she lined up to take a corner kick. She lofted the ball into the box from the left corner, and it curved its way towards the far post. As it turned in towards the net, a TAMUSA defender frantically tried to get back and defend the right post, only to get a touch which ensured the ball went inside the post and into the back of the net for the match's first goal. That would be the lone goal of the first half as LCU took a 1-0 lead into the break.
10 minutes into the second half, Giselle Liang added a notch to her team-leading goal total as she was able to take advantage of the Jaguar goalkeeper's inability to hold onto the ball, moving the spilled ball into some open space and scoring into an open net, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
Hicklin got her brace in the 77
th minute as her second goal of the night ensured the victory.
Maria White rolled the ball from the right side of the field to Hicklin, who was open in the middle. She blasted a shot into the top right corner of the net for the 3-0 lead, which the Wildcats held throughout the match's final 14 minutes.
Liang took four shots in the match, putting three on frame with the goal she scored in the match being her team-leading ninth of the season.
Hicklin doubled her season total of goals scored with her Thursday night brace, now sitting at four in 2025. She scored on every shot she took in the contest, having taken two shots in the contest.
Lucia Solanilla Leo (3-0) played all 90 minutes to pick up the win in net for LCU as she remained undefeated as the goalkeeper of record for the Wildcats this season. She was called on to make two saves in the contest.
The Wildcats finish their final full weekend of home matches this season with senior day on Saturday, hosting Our Lady of the Lake. Kickoff of Saturday's contest against the Saints (5-4-2, 2-2-1 RRAC) is set for 1 p.m. at Wildcat Field with the senior day presentation taking place before warm-ups.
