PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian volleyball team celebrated its three seniors before the final two home matches of 2025 and sent them off with a win in the second, falling 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-12) to the Xavier Gold Nuggets before ending the home schedule with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-16) win over the United States Sports University Eagles Saturday at Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats (3-17, 0-8 RRAC) started the day by dropping the second of the two-match Red River Athletic Conference weekend series against Xavier (16-8, 4-2 RRAC) as the Gold Nuggets swept the series.
Prior to the match,
Jessica Smith,
Hannah Riggens, and
Madison Danley were all honored as they played their final home matches in the orange and blue.
Three different LCU players –
Jakaira Jimcoily,
Jasmia Hartwell, and
Kourtlyn Smith - led the way with four kills each against the Gold Nuggets. Hartwell and Jimcoily paired up three different times to block back Gold Nugget attacks for Wildcat points.
Jessica Smith had a double-double against Xavier with 16 assists and 10 digs.
Angelina Medrano had two of LCU's four service aces in the match with Hartwell and Danley getting the other two.
LCU finished the match against Xavier with 23 kills, four aces, and four blocks.
To cap off the home portion of the schedule, the Wildcats took down the USSU Eagles (1-21) in straight sets to end the 13-match losing streak. In the win, the Wildcats were led by
Holly Rowe, who scored 10 kills on a .227 attack percentage and got in on a block to finish with 10.5 total points.
Smith led LCU in assists, scoring 22 against the Eagles, while also getting a kill and two service aces for three total points from her setter position.
Danley added five more service aces in the match against USSU to the two she tallied against Xavier, giving her seven total on the day.
Medrano had 12 digs and two assists in the nightcap from her libero spot.
LCU scored 32 kills and hit for a .205 attack percentage in the win over USSU while holding the Eagles to just a .013 hitting percentage and 19 total kills in the match. The Eagles finished two of the three sets in the negatives in terms of hitting as the LCU defense forced USSU to commit more errors than the number of kills the Eagles tallied in those sets. The Wildcats also scored on 11 service aces in the win and blocked back four Eagle attacks for LCU points.
The Wildcats head on the road for the final two matches of the season next weekend, looking to end the regular season on a high note as the team heads to Tyler, Texas for a pair of RRAC matches against Texas College. Opening serve of the series opener against the Steers (0-12, 0-6 RRAC) is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium.
