Women’s Soccer Blanks Wiley To Gift Coach Houle First Victory

Louisiana Christian Top Performers:

  • Coach Houle got the proverbial monkey off his back after a tough four-game stretch to begin his maiden voyage that included a tie vs. Mobile in his debut, and then three consecutive road trips to #2 William Carey on top of back-to-back NCAA Division I opponents (Southern and McNeese).

  • Coming into Wednesday's match, Valeria Barriga Casallas logged the team's lone goal of the campaign. The Colombian added another to her total in the 45th minute, giving her eight as a Wildcat and led the club with three shots-on-goal in addition to four shot attempts overall.

  • Maria Alonso had a career evening, tying her personal-best of three points by scoring the go-ahead goal at 43:36 and assisting Barriga Casallas' strike shortly thereafter while popping off a career-high seven shots.

  • In a statistical oddity, both Tanika Rother and Daniela Gomez have yet to contribute a single shot this year, but each can add an assist to their resumes as the two newcomers each tallied one vs. Wiley.

  • Jazmine Jamison put the cherry on top of victory numero uno with the contest's third and final goal, exactly 54 minutes into the match, finding the back of the net for the fifth time in her career.

  • Jaycee Woods registered what will undoubtedly be the most relaxing shutout of her tenure in Pineville, collecting her eighth career shutout without facing a single shot from the visiting club.

Record Book Watch:

Career

  • Barriga Casallas entered the shots-on-goal leaderboard, knocking Sara Smith (2011-13) off of the backend as she has put together 32 on-target attempts, good for tenth.

  • Alonso was responsible for the game-winner, the second such score while donning the Orange and Blue, moving her into a six-way tie for ninth on the list, joining the logjam of Andrea Starr (2007), Hannah Haddock (2006-08), Bethel Chibesa (2017-18), Laura Magleau (2021-22), and Alicia Gurrusquieta (2022-23).
