PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University athletics program would like to recognize football's Datlan Cunningham and volleyball's Katie Spell as this week's LCU Student-Athletes of the Week.
 
Cunningham, a freshman running back from Alexandria, Louisiana, was responsible for the Wildcats' lone score at the FCS' Houston Christian, jackknifing his way into the end zone to conclude a 15-play, 75-yard drive. The Butler Community College transfer went for 49 yards on the ground and his first career touchdown.
 
Spell, a senior right side hitter from Arlington, Texas, led the Wildcats in points per set (4.3), kills per set (3.5), aces per set (0.5), points (25.5), kills (21), and service aces (3) while hitting .263 with 19 digs (3.2 p/s) as well as 3 blocks (0.5 p/s) in the RRAC opening sweep at Southwest (New Mexico). In Saturday's match, she exploded for a season-high 18 points (6.0 p/s) & 16 kills (5.3 p/s), both just shy of career-bests, in addition to her first double-double of the season & 8th of her career (16 kills & 11 digs), while having a season-high 2 aces in Friday's sweep. She moved into a tie for eighth on the program's career service aces leaderboard (46) over the weekend.
 
Cunningham and his football crew begin Sooner Athletic Conference action on top of playing its regular season home opener as well vs. Langston at 6 p.m. on Wildcat Field.
 
Spell and the volleyball team welcome Texas College for its two-match, home opening contests on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at noon inside H.O. West Fieldhouse.
