Defense Recovers Three Fumbles, Cunningham Hits Paydirt At Houston Christian

 
HOUSTON, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University football program jumped on three of the Huskies' five fumbles and was able to punch in a touchdown during the final period, showing signs of progress despite what the scoreboard read, 70-7 in favor of HCU.

                    * Brimmer contributed five tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, plus a half-sack as well.
 
  • Datlan Cunningham was responsible for the visitors' score, jackknifing his way into the end zone to conclude a 15-play, 75-yard drive. The freshman went for 49 yards on the ground, second only to Daylon Charles' 51 with the latter running back also picking up eight yards on a reception.
 
  • The passes broken up streak remains alive for 2023 NAIA 2nd Team All-American Pop McGhee, knocking down a would-be completion for the 13th contest in-a-row.
 
  • Among the signal-callers, River Thompson amassed a personal-high 129 passing yards and eight rushing to lead the QBs while Allen Hamilton got his first taste of collegiate football, completing half of his six attempts for 26 yards and scrambling for an additional 23.
   
  • Levi Hilborn got ahold of another 50-plus yard punt, sailing 57 yards to trap Houston Christian at its own five.
 
  • Sammy Feaster fronted the aerial attack by hauling in team-highs for catches (4) and yards (53), Trace Williams raised his benchmark with a 24-yard evening, and EJ Scott produced 25 yards on a pair of receptions.

  • All of the team's goals still lie within reach in lieu of the slow start with the Langston Lions making their way down to Pineville for the Sooner Athletic Conference and home opener on Saturday, September 21 for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
