Jaguars Scratch Out Five In 7th To Put Damper On Senior Day

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program fell victim to a crooked number inning for (RV) Houston-Victoria as the visitors put a five-spot on the board in the seventh to take the lead for good in a 7-2 decision on LCU's Senior Day.

We would also like to give a big shoutout to Jett Aube's father Ricky, who volunteered to take photos of Senior Day on such short notice!

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Jacob Bareswill had himself a day, getting the final starting nod at Billy Allgood Field for the campaign and ending on a high note, registering six innings of one-run ball while nearly striking out as many Jaguars (8) as he allowed to reach safely (5).

  • On a slow day offensively in which the Cats mustered just four hits and three walks, six of those seven outcomes came from three student-athletes; Nick Lorio, Harrison Waxley, and Braden Trull; who all went 1-for-3 with a hit and a walk with Lorio picking up both a run and a RBI, Waxley driving in one, and Trull's base knock wound up with him on second via a double.

  • Braxton Cooksey reached base courtesy of a hit-by-pitch before coming all the way around to score in addition to going three-up, three-down in the top of the ninth on the mound.

  • Caleb Duhon made it safely onto the basepaths twice, once on a hard shot in the hole behind second base and once on a bean ball.

  • Tyler McKenna saw the season's longest on-base streak finally snapped on Saturday afternoon, going 0-of-4 at the dish to end his run at a still impressive 25 contests straight.

Next:

  • The Wildcats finished their 2024 home slate with a 21-8 (72.4%) overall record and 13-6 (68.4%) in RRAC play as they take to the road for the remaining five games beginning with another shot at the McNeese Cowboys at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Lake Charles.
