PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University athletics program would like to recognize volleyball's
Kierra Jones, men's soccer's
Rodrigo Silva and women's soccer's
Emma Monnet as this week's LCU Student-Athletes of the Week as all three of them won RRAC accolades.
Â
Jones, a middle blocker from New Orleans, Louisiana, notching a season-high seven blocks over only four sets (1.8 p/s) on Saturday and another four more blocks (0.8 p/s) in the win Friday night as she amassed 11 (1.2 p/s) rejections overall against PQC. The six-footer racked up the second-most total blocks for a single-match ever in the five-set victory with five block assists & two solo blocks for a grand total of seven for the evening. She also would've set the program record for most points in a single-season if not for teammateÂ
Katie Spell beating her to it, so she currently sits in second now at 265.5 and the Big Easy native moved into fifth on the all-time matches played leaderboard by appearing in her 90th contest on "The Hill". It was Jones' second career weekly accolade and the first as a defensive standout, laying claim to the last RRAC Offensive Player of the Week of the 2023 campaign nearly one year ago prior on November 6.
Â
Silva, a senior goalie from Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal, was the star of the match at #4 seed Texas A&M-San Antonio as he made five saves over the 110 minutes of combined time between regulation and the two ten-minute overtime periods, then stonewalling three of the nine shot attempts in the PK shootout to give LCU just enough of an edge to survive. The former Rogers State transfer landed himself on the top-ten leaderboard for career saves on Thursday, knocking both Eric Post (2007, 2009-11) and Jayson Stewart down a peg to tenth on the totem pole as he has now gobbled up 121 saves while donning the Orange and Blue colors.
 Â
Monnet, a senior forward / midfielder from Yzeure, Allier, France, shined brightest on the biggest stage of the season, scoring the first (48th minute) and third (79th minute) goals of the day while assisting
Zoi Arkirvaki on the game-winner at the 55:19 benchmark for five massive points as she played a pivotal role in all three of the Cats' scores. Her multi-goal outing was the 11th of her illustrious career and the third of 2024. She leapt from sixth to fourth on the club's single-season points leaderboard against the Saints alone as she is now sporting 29 for the campaign in addition to jumping a spot up to fourth for goals with a dozen and the fifth assist of the year places her in tenth. The 5-foot-2 French striker who holds nearly every offensive record in school history has now been crowned offensive player of the week once in each of the past three seasons: August 30, 2022, September 18, 2023, and November 11, 2024.
Â
LCU wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 14-17 (45.2%) and 8-8 (50%) in the Red River, earning them a fourth place finish for the third year in-a-row. They will face Paul Quinn College yet again in the RRAC Tournament First Round on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. as they search for their first Championship.
The men from Pineville look to enact revenge on the LSUS Pilots, who enter Tuesday's match on a 14-game unbeaten streak, ranked #19 in the country, and fresh off winning the Regular Season Championship when they pair up in Texarkana for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
Â
A rematch of the regular season finale is on tap in the RRAC Semifinals on Tuesday at 1 p.m. as #2 seed LCU stares down #3 seed and receiving votes Xavier for a spot in the championship.
