No Tricks, All Treats As Wildcats Cruise In Halloween Matinee

SUGAR LAND, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer program did not let a soggy surface dampen its championship aspirations, scoring three times in the first half before playing keep away in a 3-0 win at North American.

Wildcats Top Performers: 

  • Giselle Laing took the first bite of the scoreboard for the Cats, dropping the ball into the goal less than five minutes into the match for her sixth score of the year and her first career game-winner.

  • Jaycee Woods made certain that Laing's goal was all the Orange and Blue would need to be triumphant, shutting out her 17th career victim on the back of four saves.

  • Valeria Barriga Casallas gave LCU a comfortable cushion during the 19th minute, blasting a goal which put her at a baker's dozen (13) for her tenure on "The Hill".

  • The nail in the coffin was delivered by Zoi Arkirvaki, who slammed the door shut with her first goal of the season as part of a career-high four shots and two SOGs, capping off a three-goal barrage over the contest's first 35 minutes. 

  • Emma Monnet represented the Wildcats for the 66th time in her storied career but did so for the first time as a reserve. No matter, as she still contributed her fourth assist of 2024 and the 19th at Louisiana Christian.

Career

  • Barriga Casallas passed Jayme Harmon (2013-15) for sixth on the all-time points list at 32, tied the same player in fourth regarding shots-on-goal with 44, and ninth in terms of total shots as she is tied with Anna Champagne (2011-14) courtesy of 72.

  • Monnet reached the 200-shot milestone for her career on the day, with nobody else in school history having more than 112.

Team

  • It was the defense's 11th clean sheet of the campaign, tying with the fall 2021 for the most in a season.

  • The five-match winning streak is the third-longest of all-time.

  • The 63 corner kicks by the Wildcats is good for fourth in the 28-year existence of the team.

Season

  • Monnet tied Laura Perez Velasco in sixth place on the points leaderboard with her 24th and she supplanted herself from last year for third on the shots taken spot (39).

  • Casallas landed on the tenth rung of the goals ladder with her seventh.

  • The Wildcats and (RV) Gold Nuggets of Xavier are tied for second place with 31 points each in the conference heading into the regular season finale in New Orleans at noon on Saturday and the regular season championship will be in reach for the winner of Jarvis Christian can knock off LSUS in Hawkins.
