Palermo III, Amoros Navarro & Monnet Named LCU Student-Athletes Of The Week

9/26/2023 9:00:00 AM

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University athletics program recognizes football's Sal Palermo III, men's soccer's Adrian Amoros Navarro and women's soccer's Emma Monnet as this week's LCU Student-Athletes of the Week.

Most weeks we will only have two winners, one male and one female, but we felt it would be a disservice to these outstanding student-athletes to leave out one of their top-notch performances.

Palermo III, a graduate student from Walker, Louisiana, used both his arm and legs in the Wildcats' 60-14 victory over the Pioneers. He was 13-of-19 (68.4%) for 369 yards through the air with three touchdowns and also rushed four times for 39 yards and a pair of scores with nearly all of his production coming exclusively in the first half. The five total touchdowns and passing yards were both season bests as Palermo III finished the evening with a passing efficiency of 283.7. The six-foot-three Accounting major leads the NAIA in passer efficiency (205.2), is top-15 for both completion percentage (64.8%, 46-of-71) and longest pass (79), slots among the top-25 regarding passing touchdowns (9) and yards per attempt (12.1), while landing among the top-third in terms of passing yards per game (214.3) plus total passing yards (857).

Amoros Navarro, a junior from Alicante, Valencia, Spain, posted three goals and two assists in an undefeated week for the Wildcats. He recorded the first hat trick by an LCU player since 2021. The five-foot-six Business major had three goals and an assist as the Orange and Blue set a new team record for goals in an 8-0 win over Paul Quinn. He also chipped in an assist in a 4-1 victory over University of the Southwest (New Mexico). The IES Mare Nostrum High School alum is second in the RRAC in goals (5), and ranks third for points (12).

Monnet, a junior from Yzeure, Allier, France, topped the team with a half-dozen points plus a trio of goals as the ladies pummeled Southwest (New Mexico) and Paul Quinn by a combined score of 9-1. The midfielder ranks seventh in the nation for points per game (3.33), tenth in goals a contest (1.33), top-20 regarding total points (20), and slots among the top-25 in total goals (8).

Soccer will host a pair of doubleheaders against Jarvis Christian on Thursday and Texas College on Saturday at 5 / 7:30 p.m. both nights while the men play a solo exhibition match on Sunday afternoon (3 p.m.) versus a regionally-ranked NCAA DII squad in Mississippi College.

The gridiron Cats go for their 11th straight triumph on Saturday evening (6 p.m.) in Goodwell, Oklahoma as they look to avenge their last loss in the past calendar year opposite Oklahoma Panhandle State.
