Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Daylon Charles and Devin Briscoe were a two-headed monster in the backfield, combining for 214 yards on top of averaging a robust 9.3 yards per carry.

  • Charles got most of his production by breaking off long runs, netting 113 yards on just nine carries including a 45-yarder and averaging more than a first down per tote (12.6).

  • Briscoe grinded for his success, breaking through arm tackles on runs up the middle for a stat line of 14 rushes for 101 yards and a 7.2 YPC.

  • While Charles and Briscoe racked up the mileage, Taevion Cunningham and Sal Palermo III were the touchdown vultures, as the latter snatched a pair of scores on goal line opportunities while the former broke off a 20-yard touchdown to put the game on ice in the fourth quarter along with a short plunge.

  • Cunningham made his Wildcats debut on Thursday, taking two of his three carries to the house after transferring from FCS' Tennessee-Martin.

  • Palermo ended his night by completing 70.6% of his passes (12-of-17) for 130 yards in addition to 15 yards rushing plus those two sneak-and-scores.

  • Defensive Coordinator Tyson Andrus' warriors were spending a majority of their time in the backfield Thursday evening, constantly harassing quarterback Cornelius Banks and the offensive line with 12 tackles for loss plus five sacks.

  • This is not new territory for LCU as they had a dozen TFLs vs. Ottawa (Arizona) plus a pair of five sack contests against Texas College and Texas Wesleyan in 2022.

  • The destructive pass rush/run stuffers of Andre Reed (2.5 TFL, 1.5 Sacks), Kavin Touriac (2.5 TFL, 0.5 Sacks), Kelan Bougere (1.5 TFL/Sacks), Logan Brimmer (2.0 TFL, 1.0 Sacks), and Ernest Simon (2.0 TFL, 0.5 Sacks) accounted for 87.5% of the tackles behind the line of scrimmage as well as all five sacks.

  • Brimmer and Simon led the charge in the tackling department with eight apiece, followed closely behind by Reed and Touriac at seven each.

  • In total, the pass rush was able to collect double-digit quarterback hurries (10) while the secondary broke up seven passes, all credited to different defenders.

  • Detavius Eldridge knocked the pigskin free on top of a quartet of takedowns while Hayden Seneca made a half-dozen tackles including the Cats' lone turnover by recovering a self-inflicted Tigers fumble.

  • Levi Hilborn was 2-for-3 on his field goal attempts, making from 27 and 35 yards out while his other kick was blocked. He also was a perfect 4-of-4 on PATs.

  • Sammy Feaster led the wide receivers in catches and yards, going for a new career-high of four receptions while contributing 51 yards.

Notes:

  • LCU outgained East Texas Baptist, 414 to 292, averaged 3.2 more per play, 7.0 to 3.8, and tallied one more first down, 25-24.

  • The 20-point margin of victory was the second-highest in the series' history dating back to its origins in 1947, with the only bigger win coming in 2010 when the Wildcats clobbered the Tigers, 49-21 (+28).
