Lady Wildcats take down No.11 Texarkana in RRAC Tournament

The Lady Wildcats took the lead in the top of the seventh defeating Texarkana 5-4. The Wildcats were down 4-2 until senior Desiree Squires tripled off the leftfield wall scoring 3 runs.

Junior Miah Broussard earned the win for the Wildcats only allowing eight hits on four runs over six innings. Brooke Ross threw one inning of relief out of the bullpen respectively. Broussard never doubted her offense to have her back.

"I trust them 1,000%." Broussard says "It's huge for us, we came in as the underdogs and we put our whole heart on the field and are going to continue to put it out there. Extremely excited going into tomorrow knowing that every one of us is going to give their best and nothing less!"

Sophomore Emma Hunt led the Wildcats in hits going two for three at the plate.

The Wildcats had a big inning in the seventh, led off by senior Olivia Coaker. Coaker doubled to right field giving the 'Cats a runner on base. Then sophomore Brooke Ross singled and moved the runner over to third. Senior BreAnna Corkern scored a run on an error by the second basemen. Senior Kayla Dauthier gets an RBI by scoring the run at third, the bases get loaded by walks and a hit by pitch. Senior Desiree Squires maximizes and triples off the left field wall, clearing the bases.

"Stepping into the box I knew I had a job to do. I was literally stepping into a dog fight and it was going to come down to who wanted it more. Westberry is a very talented pitcher and she had beaten me twice in my previous at-bats, but knowing that my teammates and coaches believed in me and were relying on me, I knew I had to produce." Squires says, " I settled my mind to the fact that I was not going down without a fight. the people who got the ball rolling and got on base before we were the real heroes of this game. All I did was do my job."

The Wildcats will have another tough game Friday, May 5th at St. Mary's University against Texas A&M San Antonio at 12:30 p.m. Squires believes they can come out on top.

"Tomorrow is going to be another dog fight against another scrappy team but we are prepared and have a spirit of fight that runs deep," She says "I believe that today lit a spark and all we have to do is keep it burning."
