BALDWIN CITY, Kan. / MOBILE, Ala. – The Louisiana Christian University football and men's soccer programs both simultaneously clinched their first ever NAIA postseason appearances within a few minutes of each other on Saturday evening as
Hunter Martensson's field goal sailed through the uprights in Fort Worth to advance to the NAIA Football Championship Series then a few hours east in Texarkana, the final buzzer sounded on a 1-0 shutout victory that gave Coach Castillo's men their first conference championship in school history as well.
Following a program-defining two-championship Saturday in the Lone Star State, the NAIA selection committees decided the first-round destinations of both clubs, beginning with football's landing spot being announced on Sunday around 6 p.m. while soccer found out their opponent around 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The gridiron Wildcats, fresh off a Sooner Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship and a sparkling new #21 ranking in the final top 25 poll, will be going to Baldwin City, Kansas, approximately 50 minutes outside of Kansas City, to face the #20 Baker University Wildcats inside
Liston Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The fútbol Cats will not have to go nearly as far, making a less than five-hour bus ride over to Mobile, Alabama. There, LCU will face the Royals from Hope International out of Fullerton, California in the opening round with a match in
The Jungle. The winner of Thursday's 6 p.m. tilt would then face the #8 seed and regional host University of Mobile Rams at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
