WOMEN'S HOOPS: Wildcats roll past Texas College 92-53

PINEVILLE – Louisiana Christian University's women's basketball team overwhelmed Texas College in the second quarter Saturday and cruised to a 92-53 win.
 
Four LCU players tallied double-doubles as the Wildcats (7-7, 4-3 RRAC) shot better than 60 percent from the field in each of the last three quarters, vaulting the 'Cats to their second consecutive win in Red River Athletic Conference play.
 
Paola Abad Prieto scored a season-high 23 points and pulled in 10 rebounds to lead LCU in scoring. Miya McKinney added 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go along with 13 rebounds, while Alexis Lavarine poured in 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
 
Noa Fernandez Fuentes scored 11 points and handed out 10 assists; her 10 helpers were the most by an LCU player this season. Jordan Barfield came off the LCU bench and chipped in 10 points.
 
The Wildcats seized control of the game in the second period as they outscored Texas College (5-10, 2-6 RRAC) 29-4 during the frame. After TXC's Serenity Jackson converted a layup with 7:35 remaining in the period, the Wildcats final 22 points of the half and took a 45-18 lead into halftime.
 
LCU shot 64.7 percent (11 of 17) from the floor in the second period, and 61.5 percent from the field (8 of 13) in the third quarter. The final quarter saw the Wildcats make nine out of their 12 field goal attempts, good for 75 percent shooting.
 
Wildcat players kept finding their teammates Saturday, as LCU tallied 28 total assists on their 34 field goals.
 
Te'Aire Hambrick led Texas College with 13 points.
 
The Wildcats return to action Thursday when they visit Dallas to face Paul Quinn College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
