PINEVILLE – Louisiana Christian University's men's basketball team completed a season sweep of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) with an 85-69 win Thursday.
Bailey Hardy poured in a game-high 28 points to lead five Wildcats scoring in double figures. Hardy shot 9-of-14 from the floor and made six out of his nine 3-point tries; he also handed out five assists.
Delor Johnson scored 20 points and pulled in eight rebounds, while Jude Akbueze also grabbed eight rebounds in addition to scoring 10 points.
D'Marcus Fugett scored 12 points and gave out five assists.
Gary Smith came off the LCU bench and scored 13 points.
The Wildcats scored 14 unanswered points between the 3:47 and 0:48 marks of the first half to take their largest lead of the game at 48-31. LCU then took a 15-point lead into halftime; the sizable advantage kept the Mustangs from getting closer than six points of the Wildcats in the second half.
The Wildcats return to action Tuesday, Jan. 24, when they continue the second round of Red River Athletic Conference play by hosting Xavier (La.). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game between the two schools.
