Wildcats Knock Off Paul Quinn, Clinch First Postseason Berth Since 2019

Borot Scores Career High in Clinching Win

DALLAS, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University women's basketball team got a season-best performance out of Claire Borot to help the Wildcats clinch its first trip to the postseason since the 2018-19 season, and first ten-win season in conference play since 2017-18, with a 79-61 win over the Paul Quinn Tigers Thursday evening at the Tiger's Den.
 
Both teams struggled to get going throughout the first ten minutes of play, with just a combined 18 points scored between the two teams in the first quarter as LCU trailed by two heading into the second quarter. The Wildcats took the lead midway through the second quarter and would not trail again in the contest. A pair of three-pointers by Claire Borot and Kieyoomia Benally helped the Wildcats extend the lead to 36-27 at halftime.
 
LCU started pulling away in the third quarter, getting the lead up to 18 points before Paul Quinn finished the period scoring the final four points to make the score 59-45 Wildcats heading into the final period of play. LCU slowly built the lead in the fourth quarter, making sure the Tigers would not be able to come back. The advantage grew to as much as 24 points, 75-51, as Noa Fernandez Fuentes with three minutes left in the game to assure the victory.
 
Claire Borot had her best game as a Wildcat, hitting nine of her 14 field goal attempts, including eight of 13 from above the three-point arc for a season high 26 points to go along with five rebounds. Kieyoomia Benally rebounded, going eight of 17 from the field, including four of seven from three-point range, for 25 points to go with eight assists and four rebounds. Miya McKinney picked up her sixth double-double in the last eight games, finishing with ten points and 16 rebounds.
 
LCU was bolstered by the sharpshooters from deep, hitting a season-high 15 made three-pointers in 32 attempts, the fourth time this season the Wildcats hit ten or more three-point field goals. LCU hit 44.1% from the field overall and 46.9% from long range. LCU's defense held Paul Quinn to just 27.4% from the field and five of 16 from above the three-point arc.
 
The Wildcats (16-8, 10-5 RRAC) look to lock down the RRAC East Division's #2-seed in the upcoming RRAC Tournament on Saturday in the regular season finale in Hobbs, N.M. against Southwest. Tip-off against the Mustangs (4-20, 3-10 RRAC) is set for 2:00 P.M. Mountain Time, 3:00 P.M. Central Time at the Jack & Mabel Maddox Student Life Center.
