Walker’s Late Game Winner Sends LC to 2-0 Start

Game-Winning Goal Scored with Less Than 30 Seconds Left in Contest

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – As the clock ticked perilously close to a second straight overtime match for the Louisiana College men's soccer team to start the season, Taylor Walker decided the match would not go beyond the 90 minutes on this day as he buried the game-winner with just 22 seconds remaining on the clock to give the Wildcats a 2-1 win over the Blue Mountain Toppers Saturday afternoon at Tyler Pitch.

After a scoreless first half, it was the Toppers that struck first not long into the second half as a goal in the 52nd minute against the run of play put BMC up 1-0.

But LC's increasing pressure on the Topper goal would pay dividends not long after as Diego Valenzuela Ramirez slipped a pass into the box to Adrian Amoros Navarro, who buried the shot to level the score at 1-1 in the 63rd minute.

It would stay that way to the game's closing moments as both teams scrambled for the game winner before the end of regulation. And with the run of play mostly on the Wildcats' offensive side of the field, it only seemed like a matter of time before LC struck. And strike they did as Amoros Navarro fed a pass to Taylor Walker, who buried the shot for the game winner with just 22 seconds showing left on the game clock to send the Wildcats off to their first winning start in their first two matches since the 2012 season.

Adrian Amoros Navarro collected his first goal and first assist of the season to help lead the Wildcats to victory. He took two total shots in the match with his one shot on frame going into the net. Taylor Walker's first goal of the season came on his only shot in the contest. Diego Valenzuela Ramirez's assist on the first goal was his first of the season. Arturo Riestra Torrejon took a team-high five shots in the match with one on frame. João Pedro Giraldez Franco took three shots and put a team-high two of them on target. Shakeem Walters also took three shots, all of which were wide of the frame. The Wildcats as a team took 21 shots in the contest and put seven of them on target.

Martin Hernandez (2-0) went all 90 minutes in goal for the Wildcats and picked up three saves in the victory as he faced a total of seven shots from the Toppers (0-1) with four of them being on frame.

The Wildcats (2-0) look to keep the hot start to the season going on Labor Day Monday with a midday affair against the Mississippi University for Women. Kickoff against the Owls (0-0) is set for 1:00 P.M., or roughly 20 minutes after the end of the women's match, at the Columbus Soccer Complex.
