NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana College volleyball team looked to ride the momentum of its first win of the season into the second match of the season against Dillard, but the result would be similar to the first match of the year as the Wildcats couldn't rally all the way back from a 2-0 deficit, falling to the Bleu Devils 3-1 (19-25, 15-25, 26-24, 12-25) Tuesday night at Albert W. Dent Hall.
The Wildcats got down 6-2 in the opening moments of the first set but rallied to tie the score at 8-8 thanks to a run that included kills by
Aniah Adams and
Makinze Spivey. Dillard answered with a run of ten out of the next 15 rallies to open up an 18-13 lead before another set of kills by Adams and
Michelle Iroh pulled LC back to within 18-15. The Bleu Devils scored five of the next six points and closed out the first set at 25-19.
Dillard opened up the second set quickly, taking a 9-4 lead. LC tried to stay in contact as a kill by
Jaslyn Bright pulled the Wildcats back to withing 12-7. However, the Bleu Devils opened up the score in a big way with a seven point run that gave Dillard a 19-7 lead as the Bleu Devils took set two with a 25-15 score to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Facing the sweep and trailing 18-13 in the third set, the Wildcats rallied by scoring six out of seven points to tie the match at 19-19 as
Aniah Adams blocked a Bleu Devil attack. Dillard scored the next three, only to be answered by three straight by the Wildcats, capped by a service ace by
Paris Babino. A block by
Aniah Adams and
Sadi Jones tied the score at 23-23 and a kill by
Michelle Iroh gave the Wildcats set point. While Dillard fought off the first set point to bring in extra rallies. A
Jaslyn Bright kill put the Wildcats again on set point and an attack error by the Bleu Devils gave the Wildcats the set victory 26-24 to force a fourth set.
But the fourth set went quickly into Dillard's favor, jumping out to a 9-2 lead. LC pulled back as close as 13-8 after a kill by
Aniah Adams, but the Bleu Devils scored nine of the next ten to open the lead again and closed out the match 25-12.
Aniah Adams led LC offensively with ten kills, four total blocks, and two digs.
Michelle Iroh had five kills with one assist and one block assist.
Makinze Spivey had six assists, three service aces, and a kill.
Paris Babino finished with two kills, 13 assists, a service ace, and eight digs.
I'Nyah Kately finished with 11 digs.
The Wildcats (1-6, 1-3 RRAC) returns to conference action on Saturday for Senior Day against Jarvis Christian. Opening serve against the Bulldogs (2-13, 1-2 RRAC) is set for 1:00 P.M. at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
