Wildcats Drop Match to Centenary in Straight Sets

Revell Scores Eight Kills to Lead LC Attack

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Louisiana College volleyball team faced a stiff test before a weekend full of Red River Athletic Conference action, dropping a straight sets decision to the Centenary Ladies 21-25, 18-25, 6-25 Wednesday night at the Gold Dome.

The Wildcats jumped out first in the opening set as Abby Revell and Sadi Jones got up to block a Centenary attack for a 2-0 LC lead. LC maintained the lead through 4-2 thanks to a kill by Kierra Jones. A kill by Abby Revell gave the Wildcats the lead back at 5-4 before a Centenary attack error made it 6-4 LC. Centenary came back to tie the score at 6-6, and then the two teams traded points, including an Aniah Adams kill that gave the Wildcats at 8-7 lead. But from that point, the Ladies rattled off nine of the next 11 points to bust out to a 16-10 lead before a block by Revell and Kierra Jones ended the run. LC got on a run of its own from these, pulling the match back to within a point as a kill by Sadi Jones made it 20-19 Centenary. But the Wildcats couldn't pull that deficit all the way back and dropped the set 25-21.

After falling behind 3-1 to start the second set, a kill by Katie Spell ignited a 3-point push by the Wildcats that got LC the lead following a kill by Kierra Jones for a 4-3 Wildcat advantage. But from there, Centenary would score seven straight points and eight out of nine to take an 11-5 lead. LC would cut that deficit down to four points several times, including a kill by Kate Campbell that made the score 22-18. However, Centenary scored the final three points to close out the second set at 25-18 and move the match to a 2-0 lead for the Ladies.

The start of the third set was back and forth as Sadi Jones got a kill to tie the score at 1-1, and then a kill and a service ace by Katie Spell helped LC pull back a 4-2 deficit into a 5-5 tie. But things got away from LC quickly after that as Centenary scored 17 straight points to pull away, with a Kierra Jones kill the only remaining point in the match for LC as the Ladies closed out the match 25-6 in the third set.

Abby Revell led the Wildcats offense with eight kills, three service aces, two block assists, and a dig. Sadi Jones had six kills with three blocks and four digs. Paris Babino led LC with 21 assists while also contributing five digs. I'Nyah Kately led the team with 11 digs.

The Wildcats (0-3, 0-1 RRAC) now head to DeSoto, Texas for the RRAC East Round-Up for a trio of matches over the weekend. The Round-Up starts on Friday with a pair of matches, one against Wiley and the other against Our Lady of the Lake. Opening serve against the Wiley Wildcats (2-4, 0-2 RRAC) is set for 10:00 A.M. with the match against the Saints (7-3, 2-0 RRAC) set for 2:00 P.M., both at the DeSoto Recreation Center.
