Wildcats Battle Tough but Win Streak Ends with Loss to Lamar

Terra Garcia's Four Shots Lead LC against NCAA D-I Opponent

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College women's soccer team battled touch against NCAA Division I side Lamar University, even controlling the run of play for a good portion of the first half, but ultimately two second half goals ended the Wildcats undefeated start to the 2021season in a 2-0 loss to the Cardinals Thursday night at Wildcat Field.

The Wildcats held the early advantage, including a shot in the 22nd minute where a free kick found the head of Martina Terra Garcia, who headed it towards the goal and was only kept out from going in by the outstretched fingertips of the Lamar goalkeeper.

LC even seemed to get a little luck towards the end of the first half as Jessica Carro Pedreira saved a shot from the left wing, and then was able to stuff a shot off the rebound while falling to the ground from a player who was lurking on the back post looking to poach a rebound goal. The match went to the half still scoreless.

But the upset against the DI program was not to be as Lamar scored in the 51st minute on a cross into the box that was headed into the net. That was followed by a goal in the 71st minute on a shot after the Cardinal player was able to work herself around the Wildcats defense.

Martina Terra Garcia led the Wildcat offense with four shots during the match, putting three of them on target. Emma Monnet took a shot and put it on frame as well. The Wildcats finished the match with six total shots in the match and four on target.

Jerrica Carro Pedreira (4-1) played all 90 minutes in net for LC in the match and was credited with five saves as she faced 16 total shots from the Cardinals, seven of which were on goal.

The Wildcats (4-1) now prepare for their first ever foray into Red River Athletic Conference play on Thursday, September 23rd when LC heads to Round Rock, Texas to take on Huston-Tillotson. Kickoff against the Rams (1-1) is set for 1:00 P.M. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
