Wildcats Cap Dominant Sweep of LeTourneau with Run-Rule Win

LC Scores 12 in First 3 Innings to Put Game Away Early

PINEVILLE, La. – The (RV) Louisiana College baseball team blew open its game early against LeTourneau, building up a 12-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets after just three innings of play and cruising to a 17-2 win in seven innings on Friday to finish the three-game series sweep at Billy Allgood Field at Legacy Stadium.

For the second time this week, Alex Ashby wasted no time in getting the Wildcats on the board, taking the first pitch he saw in the lead-off spot of the LC first inning and sent the ball over the left field wall for a solo home run.

Things started to open up in the second inning. A wild pitch with the bases loaded allowed Beau Freeman to come home, and then, after the bases were re-loaded, Keelyn Johnson's base hit to left-center drove in both Nicolas Ramos and Jacob Fowler for a 4-0 lead. Dane Pedersen finished off the frame with a base hit to left that brought in both Johnson and Christian Vandergrift to give with Wildcats a 6-0 lead after just two innings of play.

The third inning was even better for the Wildcats as LC doubled its lead in the frame. With the bases loaded and one out, Christian Vandergrift hit a sinking liner to right that dropped in for a base hit and Beau Freeman came home to score. Keelyn Johnson then drove a base hit to center which was then bobbled, allowing not just Nicolas Ramos from third but also Jacob Fowler from second to make it 9-0. Ju'Juan Franklin's ground ball to short allowed Vandergrift to score for LC's tenth run of the game. Dane Pederson singled in Johnson, and then Ty Morgan capped off the big rally with a double to the right-center gap to plate Pedersen for a 12-0 lead after three.

LC didn't let up in the fourth as Vandergrift found the third base line in the fourth inning for a RBI double that scored Ramos from third, then then Keelyn Johnson drilled a pitch that was an absolute no-doubter home run, a two-run blast for a 15-0 lead after just four innings of play.

LeTourneau got one run back in the top of the sixth inning, but LC not only got that run back but added to the lead in the bottom half of the frame. With the bases loaded, Keelyn Johnson watched ball four fly by to force home Eddie Baez. Later, Dane Pedersen did the same, walking in Zachary Trangmar for the Wildcats final run of the game. The Yellow Jackets pushed one across in the seventh but would not threaten the LC lead or the game ending early due to the run-rule.

Keelyn Johnson paced the LC offense, going three-for-four with his third home run of the season, six RBI, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. Christian Vandergrift went two-for-three with a double, a walk, a stolen base, two RBI, and three runs scored. Dane Pedersen went two-for-three with two walks, four RBI, and a run scored. Nicolas Ramos went two-for-two from the DH spot, both doubles, and was hit by a pitch and scored three runs. Alex Ashby's one hit of the day was his team-leading eighth home run of the season.

Andrew Robinson (3-0) threw the first four innings and gave up just two hits and no runs with one strike out and no walks. Dylan Roark threw 1.1 innings and gave up a hit and a run, which was unearned, and struck out three with no walks. Konnor McDermott threw an inning and gave up a walk but got out of the inning facing the minimum. Dylan Coburn got the final two outs of the game, giving up two hits and one unearned run with no walks or strikeouts.

The (RV) Wildcats (19-4, 15-0 ASC) look to keep their undefeated start in conference play going next weekend on the road at East Texas Baptist. First pitch of Friday's game against the Tigers (16-9, 11-4 ASC) is set for 7:00 P.M. at Woods Field.
