Wildcats Fall Twice at Texas-Dallas

LC Battles Tough with Top-10 Comets

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Louisiana College volleyball team battled tough in a pair of road matches, but ultimately dropped a pair of 3-0 decision to an undefeated Texas-Dallas squad Tuesday night at the UTD Activity Center.

Match 1 – Louisiana College 0 (15, 20, 13), Texas-Dallas 3 (25, 25, 25)

Sadi Jones started the match off well for LC as her service ace awarded the first point of the day to the Wildcats. Kills by Leah Stamps and Abby Revell tried to keep the first set close early, however, the Comets started to pull away with a run of six out of seven points to turn a 7-4 match into a 13-5 match and the Comets pulled away for the first set win.

After an early 3-1 deficit in the second set, Sadi Jones tied things up with another ace to make it 3-3. Following a UTD point, the Wildcats had their best run of the night as a kill by Jaslyn Bright started a run of four straight LC points and five out of six to the Wildcats that gave LC an 8-5 lead. UTD pulled the score back to 10-9 before a pair of kills by Stamps and Sadi Jones pulled the Wildcats back out to a 12-9 lead. But following a trade of points, Texas-Dallas went on a big run to take control of the set, scoring off eight of the next nine rallies to give the Comets an 18-14 lead. The Wildcats tried to keep it close, but UTD closed out the set at 25-20.

The third set of the first match again stayed close early as a kill by Sadi Jones pulled LC back to within a 10-8 deficit. Later, a kill by Royanne Narcisse made it 14-11 UTD, but that's where the Comets pulled away by scoring the next six points to make it 20-11. An ace by Leah Stamps got LCs's 13th point of the set, but that would be the last one as UTD scored the next five points to close out the match.

Sadi Jones and Abby Revell each finished with five kills in the first match while Jones also added two aces as well as a block assist and a solo block. Paris Babino contributed 16 assists and six digs. Jaslyn Bright was credited with seven digs in the contest.

Match 2 – Louisiana College 0 (11, 13, 17), Texas-Dallas 3 (25, 25, 25)

Much like in the first match, the second match saw LC get an early lead as a UTD attack error gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. But UTD answered with the next seven points before Jaslyn Bright collected a kill to end the run. However, the Comets slowly pulled away for the 25-11 win.

The early points in the second set were split evenly as I'Nyah Kately collected a kill to tie the set at 4-4. But UTD scored off eight of the next nine points for a 12-5 score. Sadi Jones then registered a kill and an ace back-to-back to get LC back within 12-7 but UTD scored the next four to open the lead again and would close the set 25-13.

Set three started well enough for the Wildcats as a Jaslyn Bright kill helped LC jump out to a 3-1 lead. But a run of four straight Comet points gave UTD the lead for the remainder of the contest. Sadi Jones got a kill that kept the set close at 6-5, but a 9-4 UTD run opened the score and while LC battled to keep things close, the Comets closed out the set and the match.

Sadi Jones led the Wildcats in the second set with nine kills, an ace, a block assist, and four digs. Lexie Sampson was credited with nine assists. Paris Babino had ten digs, eight assists, and two block assists. Leah Stamps finished the match with 11 digs.

The Wildcats (0-6, 0-6 ASC) come back home for Senior Day this Saturday as LeTourneau comes to town for a pair of matches. Opening serve against the Yellow Jackets (9-2, 6-2 ASC) is set for 1:00 P.M. at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
