Roark Pitches Gem as Wildcats Sweep War Hawks

Early Lead Only Extended as LC Takes All 3 Games from McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – Junior RHP Dylan Roark allowed just one hit in six innings of work to keep the McMurry bats silent while the Louisiana College baseball team's offense continued to swing strongly as the Wildcats finished off a three-game American Southwest Conference sweep of the War Hawks with an 11-1 win in eight innings Saturday afternoon at Walt Driggers Field.

Roark had all the reason to be comfortable when he took the mound for the first time in the contest as his teammates had given him a three-run lead before he emerged from the dugout. Keelyn Johnson dropped a base hit into right field to plate the game's first run as Alex Ashby came around to score. Christian Vandergrift and Johnson both touched home on separate passed balls to account for the 3-0 lead after one.

LC added another run to the lead in the second inning as Christian Vandergrift also dropped a base hit to right which brought Dylan David home to make it 4-0 LC.

Some control issues by McMurry pitchers helped LC extend the lead in the fourth inning. After a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases full of 'Cats, Ty Morgan was hit by a pitch, which forced home Brodie Falgoust for the fifth run of the game. Beau Freeman immediately followed that by drawing ball four for a walk, which forced in Keelyn Johnson to make the score 6-0 Wildcats.

McMurry picked up its lone run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Wildcats quickly got that run back in the top of the fifth as Vandergrift's two-out double to right brought Brodie Falgoust all the way around from first for a 7-1 score after five.

Thinking now about finishing off the contest, LC plated two more in the seventh as Falgoust scored on a wild pitch and Dane Pedersen's RBI single scored Keelyn Johnson from second for a 9-1 lead. In the eighth, the Wildcats got in position to activate the run rule with a two-RBI double by Alex Ashby that scored both Beau Freeman and Tyrese Morgan for the game's final runs. Beau Hebert came on in the bottom of the eighth and got the War Hawks up and down in order, including two strikeouts, to end the game an inning early.

Ty Morgan had a day at the plate, going three-of-four with a pair of doubles, knocked in a run, and was hit by a pitch. Alex Ashby and Christian Vandergrift were both three-of-six at the plate with a double apiece, a run scored and two RBI each. Keelyn Johnson and Beau Freeman both went two-for-four with RBI. Johnson came around to score three times while Freeman touched home plate once. Brodie Falgoust went one-of-three at the plate but scored three times.

Dylan Roark (2-0) had a day on the mound as he worked the first six innings and allowed just one hit and one unearned run, walked one, and struck out seven batters to pick up the win. Dylan Coburn worked an inning of relief and allowed just one hit while getting the other three batters he faced out. Beau Hebert worked a clean final inning to close out the win.

The Wildcats (6-2, 3-0 ASC) come back home for their next conference series next weekend against Hardin-Simmons. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader against the Cowboys (1-2, 1-2 ASC) is set for 4:00 P.M. at Billy Allgood Field at Legacy Stadium.
