PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College softball team had a good start at the plate in the first inning of its doubleheader against Central Methodist, but the production slowed to a halt in a pair of losses to the Eagles, 11-4 and 13-0 in five innings, Tuesday afternoon at Wildcat Park.
Game 1 – Central Methodist 11, Louisiana College 4
The Lady 'Cats had a big hole to dig out of right out of the gate as Central Methodist scored six runs in the top of the first inning, but LC responded strong with a big inning of their own.
Briley Johnston laid down a perfect bunt for a leadoff single, then she stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before
Desiree Squires brought her home with a base hit through the gap on the left side of the infield for a RBI single and a 6-1 score.
Miah Broussard then tried to help her own cause a bit as she dropped a base hit into center field to score Squires.
Kayla Dauthier kept the rally going right after that with another RBI single as she found the gap into right field, which scored
Alyssa Landry. After the Lady 'Cats loaded the bases,
Isabel Armand drew a pinch hit walk that forced in Broussard to cut the deficit to 6-4.
But LC would only have 1 more big threat in the remainder of the contest, which came in the sixth inning with the Lady 'Cats trailing 11-4 as both
Breanna Newman and
Briley Johnston were both hit by pitches.
Brianna Lopez, who came in to run for Newman, got all the way to third thanks to a wild pitch and a passed ball while Johnston later stole second, but both would be stranded on base.
Kayla Dauthier and
Bella Houck both collected base hits in the seventh inning, but they would be left standing on first and second respectively when the final out was recorded.
Kayla Dauthier and
Bella Houck each went two-for-four in game one with Dauthier adding a RBI to her statline.
Desiree Squires and
Miah Broussard were both one-of-four with a RBI and a run scored.
Briley Johnston was one-of-two at the plate, was hit by a pitch, and stole two bases.
Miah Broussard (0-2) went the distance in the circle as she allowed 12 hits and 11 runs, ten earned, walked six and struck out one.
Game 2 – Central Methodist 13, Louisiana College 0 (5 innings)
The second game of the day was slower to get started, but for LC, that start never came while CMU found its gear. The Eagles put in three runs in the second inning to take the lead, added two more in the third, and then the big inning came with CMU scoring eight in the fourth and no answer was forthcoming from LC.
Bella Houck was LC's lone base runner in game two, drawing a walk to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bailey McMillian (2-2) went 3.1 innings in the contest and gave up 11 hits and 12 runs, 11 earned, walked three and struck out two.
Allison Deiter came on and was tagged with an earned run without picking up an out.
Olivia Coaker finished the contest, throwing the final 1.2 innings and surrendered just two hits with no runs allowed.
The Lady Wildcats (3-6, 0-0 ASC) look to rebound with the start of American Southwest Conference play on Friday as McMurry comes in for a three-game set. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader against the War Hawks (0-0, 0-0 ASC) is set for 2:00 P.M. at Wildcat Park.
