PINEVILLE, La. – While the Louisiana College volleyball team wanted to relish in its final home match of the 2021 season, it took the Wildcats little time to take care of Texas College in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-15) win over the Steers Saturday afternoon at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats found themselves down 4-1 in the opening moments of the first set but rallied in a big way that included kills by
Abby Revell to help LC not just take the lead but start to pull away. An
I'Nyah Kately service ace put the Wildcats up 16-9 as LC grew the lead. A
Kierra Jones kill gave serve back to LC with the score 23-14. A
Sadi Jones kill and a service ace by
Leah Stamps ended the first set 25-14 Wildcats.
Again, LC found themselves in an early deficit to start the second set as Texas College scored the first two points. But the Wildcats quickly rallied back to take a 4-3 lead off an ace by
Sadi Jones. The Steers recouped and went on a run to take a 10-7 lead, only to see the Wildcats battle back again as a
Megan O'Neal kill and two
Makinze Spivey service aces put LC back up 11-10. A kill by
Jaslyn Bright put the Wildcats up for good in the set at 13-12. Leading 15-13, an attack error by the Steers sent LC on a set-ending 10-0 run, finishing the set at 25-13 and giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the match.
While allowing TC to get the first point in the third set, LC scored the next five, which included a service ace by
Abby Revell, to put the Wildcats up 5-1. The Steers fought back to reclaim the lead, but back-to-back kills by
Abby Revell gave LC the lead to stay at 11-9.
Kierra Jones added a kill of her own to put LC up 13-9. With
I'Nyah Kately at the serve, kills by
Abby Revell and
Kacey Lyon and several aces by Kately helped put LC on the brink of the match sweep, and a TC attack error ended the match at 25-15.
Abby Revell led the Wildcats as seven of her nine attacks in the match ended in kills. Revell also added two service aces and a kill.
Jaslyn Bright had five kills, a block assist, and had six digs on the defensive side.
I'Nyah Kately had three service aces as LC was credited with 14 total aces in the match.
Paris Babino's seven assists led the team while
Makinze Spivey added six others.
The Wildcats (2-7, 2-4 RRAC) look to build upon this win next Saturday with a pair of matches. LC starts the day with a conference match-up at Jarvis Christian and will finish it off with another match-up right against Central Baptist. Opening serve against the Bulldogs 3-14, 2-3 RRAC) is set for 1:00 P.M. with the match against the Mustangs (7-6, 2-1 AMC) set for 3:00 P.M., both at the Earl W.
