Wildcats Suffer Tough Result at LSUS

Early LC Lead Doesn't Stand Up Against Pilots

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Louisiana College men's soccer team took the early lead against LSU Shreveport, but saw it evaporate as the Pilots surged late in the first half and through the second half to drop the Wildcats 5-1 Saturday evening at The Swamp.

The Wildcats got things going in the positive direction in the 26th minute as LSUS tried to clear a LC corner kick, but only sent it back as far as Jacob Bruce and Bruce teed up a shot that beat the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.

But that lead lasted ten minutes before the Pilots equalized. Two minutes later, the Pilots took the lead as LSUS enjoyed a 2-1 lead at the break. Shortly after the halftime ended, LSUS added a third in the 52nd minute. The hope for a LC comeback was quashed as the Pilots added two more inside the match's final ten minutes to close out the match.

Jacob Bruce's goal came on his lone shot of the match and was his first goal of the season. Seth Collins took a team high three shots in the contest. Arturo Riestra Torrejon took two shots with one on frame. The Wildcats took 11 shots in the match, putting five on frame.

Martin Hernandez (4-1) had his moment in the match, stopping a LSUS penalty shot shortly after LC's goal. In the end, he was credited with ten saves as he faced 30 shots from the LSUS attack, 15 of which were on target.

The Wildcats (7-5, 2-4 RRAC) look to rebound on Friday night in the Rapides Parish Derby against LSU Alexandria. Kickoff against the Generals (4-4-2, 2-1-2 RRAC) is set for 7:30 P.M., or about 20 minutes following the end of the women's match, at Wildcat Field.
