Wildcats Drop Game at LETU, Postseason Hopes Remain

Wildcats Look for Help to Make ASC Tournament

LONGVIEW, Texas – It was an offensive onslaught in the second half of the Louisiana College men's basketball team's game against LeTourneau Thursday night, one which the Wildcats ultimately couldn't keep up with in a 91-76 loss to the Yellow Jackets at Solheim Arena.

A Kae'ron Baker fast break bucket and a KJ Bilbo free throw helped LC start the game fast enough with a 3-0 lead more than two minutes in before the Yellow Jackets scored their first points. But a 13-0 LeTourneau run put the Wildcats into a deficit they could not recover from, though that 13-3 LETU lead would eventually get cut in half as a Denzel Austin three with 3:15 left in the first half made it 28-23 LeTourneau. The Yellow Jackets led 34-26 at the break.

The start of the second half turned quickly against the Wildcats as the LeTourneau lead quickly grew as the Yellow Jackets outscored LC 38-20 over the first 11 minutes of the second half to open up a 26-point lead at 72-46. LC fought back however, getting that deficit down to as little as 14 points after a Jamael Owusu long two ball made the score 86-72 with two minutes left in the contest.

Fr. F Donald Calais had one of his better nights as a Wildcat, finishing the night with a team-high 13 points. Sr. G Jaylen Rhone finished the contest with 12 points and four rebounds. Jr. G Kae'ron Baker rounded out the leading scorers for LC with 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. Louisiana College finished the contest hitting 36.9% from the field, including 47.1% in the second half as the Wildcats scored 50 points in the final 20 minutes of the contest.

The Wildcats (12-12, 6-9 ASC) need a win Saturday at East Texas Baptist, as well as a loss by Belhaven at LeTourneau, to clinch the final spot in the ASC Championship Tournament, which this season is being hosted by the ASC West Division Champion, Sul Ross St. in Alpine, Texas. Tip-off between the Wildcats and Tigers (19-5, 12-3 ASC) is set for 3:00 P.M. at Ornelas Gymnasium.
