Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wildcats Knock Off Ozarks to Pick Up First ASC Win

13-0 2nd quarter run helps end 6-game skid

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The Louisiana College women's basketball team used a 13-0 run during the second quarter to open up a lead it would not relinquish as the Wildcats picked up their first American Southwest Conference win of the season with a 75-67 win over the University of the Ozarks Eagles Saturday afternoon at Mabee Gymnasium.

With the game tied at 13-13 two minutes into the second quarter, the game deciding run started as Christina Canale found Alex Harrison above the arc, who drained a three-pointer to give the Wildcats the lead for the rest of the contest. The run was capped two minutes later a ZyUnn Cormier grabbed a rebound and found Kayla Kinney in the open court for a transition lay-up and a 26-13 LC advantage. Ozarks would cut that lead down to as little as six points in the third quarter, but another LC push assured there would be no Eagle comeback. Leading 41-35 with five minutes remaining in the third, Cormier was fouled and hit two free throws to kick off a 9-0 spurt by the Wildcats that Alex Harrison ended by hitting her own pair of free throws to make it 50-35 with 2:45 left in the third quarter and the lead never went below double-figures until right at the final buzzer. The Wildcat lead peaked at 16 points on a lay-up by Harrison with 3:30 left in the game that made it 71-55 before coasting to the final score.

Fr. G ZyUnn Cormier led all scorers with 25 points on nine of 15 shooting, including three made three-pointers and hitting all four free throw attempts. So. G Kayla Kinney completed a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Fr. F Alex Harrison rounded out the leading scorers with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds.

LC had an effective shooting night, hitting 43.9% from the field, even without the three-point shot falling as the Wildcats were four of 18 from deep. The Wildcats also took advantage of getting to the line, hitting 21 of 29 attempts at the charity stripe.

The Wildcats (3-11, 1-5 ASC) look to get a win streak started at home on Thursday against East Texas Baptist. Tip-off against the (RV) Tigers (11-4, 5-1 ASC) is set for 5:30 P.M. at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
