Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Big Second Half Run Leads Wildcats over Ozarks

19-0 push propels Wildcats to win

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The Louisiana College men's basketball team rattled off 19 straight points to turn a one-point deficit into an insurmountable lead as the Wildcats got back in the win column with a 78-68 win over the University of the Ozarks Eagles Saturday evening at Mabee Gymnasium.

The first half was tightly contest as neither team led by more than four points during the first half, a half where the Wildcats led 32-30 going to the break. Through the first five minutes of the second half, it appeared that trend would continue, but then the Wildcats exploded. Trailing 46-45 with less than 15 minutes left in the game, a made free throw by Bailey Hardy tied the game at 46-46, but also set in motion the huge run that gave the Wildcats the separation needed to pull away. Five minutes later, Louis Blakes found C.J. Murphy in transition open above the arc for three to cap the big 19-0 run and make the score 64-46 LC with less than 9:30 left. From there, Louisiana College answered every spurt Ozarks had, keeping the lead above double-digits until the final 30 seconds of the game to close out the win.

Jr. G Kae'ron Baker continued his hot shooting, going six of ten from the field, including a three and three of four at the stripe, for 16 points to go with five assists. Fr. F C.J. Murphy had one of his best shooting days, hitting five of seven shots, all coming from above the arc, for 15 points and four assists. Sr. G Denzel Austin was five of six from the field, hitting all four three-point shots he attempted, to finish with 14 points.

Louisiana College hit 53.1% of its shots from the field, including 14 of 26 from deep, a 53.8% shooting clip from the land of plenty. The Wildcats were also successful on 12 of their 18 free throws in the contest.

The Wildcats (10-5, 4-2 ASC) look to get a new win streak started on Thursday back at home as East Texas Baptist comes to town. Tip-off against the (RV) Tigers is set for 7:30 P.M. at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
