Louisiana College softball wrapped up their first American Southwest Conference series of the year on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 12-5 win over Howard Payne University to win the series two games to one. The Wildcats took the early lead and pounded out 18 hits to cruise to the easy win.

The scoring started early and came often for the Wildcats in the rubber game of their first ASC series. A 1-out double from Taylor Hammock, seeing her first action of the season due to injury, set the table for Samantha Cetta's RBI double two batters later. An RBI singe up the middle from Bre Newman made it a 2-0 LC lead going to the bottom of the first.

The next two runs for LC would come in the top of the second thanks to the aggressive base running of the Wildcats. Speedsters Alyssa Ross and Sami Walters both came home on an error in the outfield on a ball put in play by Briley Johnston. A base hit moved her to third and she would cross the plate on a wild pitch to put the Cats up 5-0 in the second inning.

Stater Madison Dykes continued to cruise through her outing tossing 3.0 shutout innings allowing only four hits during that time before giving way to Sarah Gartman in the bottom of the fourth. The Wildcats were poised to end the game early via the run-rule by adding five more runs to their total in the top of the fifth. Johnston and Walters each hit RBI singles for the first two runs, then doubles from Desiree Squires and Newman made it a 10-0 game going into the bottom of the inning.

Howard Payne had other plans however and ensured there would be at least one more inning played with two singles to start the inning, followed by a 3-run home run. A double later in the inning made it 10-4, preventing the run-rule win for the Wildcats and sending the game to the sixth. Hammock added another RBI single in the sixth and Ross one of her own in the seventh for the final two runs of the day for the Cats.

The Wildcats will continue their road stretch next weekend as they travel to Marshall, Texas for a three game series with ASC rival East Texas Baptist University.
