Baseball Has Tough Day with Jackets



The Louisiana College baseball team had a tough day at the ballpark on Saturday afternoon as Howard Payne completed the three-game sweep of the Wildcats with a 17-5 game three win. LC committed five errors in the game that led to a pair of six-plus run innings for the Jackets.
 
The Wildcats would take the early lead in the second as a pair of HPU errors put Christian Vandergrift on third base with no outs. He would come home on a sacrifice fly from Ty Morgan and LC would score their first run without the benefit of a hit. The lead would quickly vanish though as HPU scored six runs with two outs and two LC errors in the bottom of the inning.
 
Despite the big inning the Wildcats would bounce right back in the third getting and RBI single from Dane Pedersen, and another run on another Jacket error. A Dylan Keller sac fly scored the third run of the inning and the Cats were back within a pair at 6-4 after two and a half.
 
The score stayed the same until the fourth when HPU hit a pair of RBI doubles to push their lead to 8-4. A 2-run triple in the fifth made it 10-4 then a six hit, seven run inning with three more LC errors put the game away for good in the sixth for Howard Payne.
 
The Wildcats will spend their Mardi Gras break in Florida taking part in the Russ Matt Invitational where they will play three games against teams from the Northeast part of the country.
