The Louisiana College men's tennis team returned to action over the weekend as they traveled to Jackson, Mississippi to have back to back doubleheaders. The Wildcats had a huge variety of opponents as they took on Tougaloo University, Mississippi University for Women, and conference foe Belhaven.
Tougaloo
The first series of the double header saw the men take on Tougaloo University. The action got started with doubles action saw sophomore Matthew Geisel and freshman Britton Patton defeat Justin Giles and Jabari Jackson with a score of 8-1 and earning the first point for the Wildcats. The second round of doubles saw Turran Fennix and Caleb Frederick lose to Malik Smith and Lok Turks. Jonathan Franklin and and Desmond Bowers won the third rounds by default due to withdrawal.Â
Singles action saw Matthew Geisel defeat Justin Giles 8-1 to put the cats back on the board. Britton Patton then took out Lok Turks followed by Caleb Frederick, Jonathan Franklin and Desmond Bowers all wins to add an additional five points to the board to give the men a series win with a score of 7-2.Â
Mississippi University for Women
Even though the Cats started strong, they failed to see much more success as they could only score a single point in a singles match that was won by Matthew Geisel. Although his teammates tried, there just wasn't enough offense generated to dig the cats out of their hole and they lost the series with a score of 8-1Â
Belhaven
The bad luck continued for the Wildcats as they looked to avenge themselves coming off against a losing series. It was just a set of singles and doubles that the Wildcats would rather forget as the only points even scored were by Matthew Geisel in the first set of singles. None of the men could even score a point in any of the sets as they failed to win any match in singles or doubles and they fell to Belhaven with a score of 9-0.Â
The men return home to Pineville, Louisiana to get their first taste of home action as they host John Brown University on Friday, February 22, 2019 and then they will host Xavier University of Louisiana at home on February 24, 2019. The Friday game will be at 10 A.M. and the Sunday will take place at 1 P.M. For general athletics new follow @LC_Wildcats on Twitter or like Louisiana College Wildcats on Facebook
