PINEVILLE, La. – Jr. G
Kae'ron Baker had the hot hand all night, hitting eight three-pointers on his way to 34 points to propel the Louisiana College Wildcats to a 79-61 non-conference win over fellow American Southwest Conference foe Howard Payne Yellow Jackets Monday night at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
Baker scored 11 of his points during a 28-3 Wildcat run in the second half that turned a one-point LC lead into a 16-point Wildcat advantage as one of Baker's threes gave LC a 71-55 lead with just more than four minutes left in the contest.
"This is a good win for us," said Wildcats head coach
Reni Mason. "One thing I think we can improve on is our transition defense, but overall tonight was a good night. Kae'ron shot the basketball extremely well in this game, and proved what we know, that he can score in bunches."
On his big night, Baker was 11 of 17 from the field, including eight of 13 from above the three-point arc and four of six from the free throw line for his 34 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds in the win.
Jaylen Rhone hit four threes on his way to 17 points.
KJ Bilbo grabbed a team high eight assists.
The Wildcats (3-2) welcome another conference foe to town for a non-conference game on Friday night as Hardin-Simmons comes to Pineville. Tip-off Friday against the Cowboys (4-4) is set for 5:30 P.M. at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
