ETBU Outshoots LC for Win

The Louisiana College men suffered their first road American Southwest Conference loss of the season on Thursday night, falling to rival East Texas Baptist University 94-80. ETBU shot better than 56 percent from the floor for the game and 60 percent in the second half allowing them to pull away late as LC only managed a 32 percent clip of their own in the final 20 minutes. The Wildcats take on LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Longview, Texas.

The hot shooting of the Tigers began early as their first two shots of the game went in from behind the arc. The Wildcats however were able to match the Tigers shot for shot from distance in the first half. ETBU held an eight point lead through at the 5:38 mark of the half when LC scored seven straight to cut the lead down to one, with Denzel Austin draining a shot from the corner to make it 40-39 with 3:48 left.

Just a minute later LC would take the lead after a K.D. Wallace steal and Jaylen Rhone finish on the other end. ETBU scored their final point of the half on a free throw with 1:32 left and Bailey Hardy would give the Cats the half time lead on the final three of the half with five seconds to go 49-47. The teams combined to make 22 shots from long range in the half with both teams shooting above 50 percent overall in the half.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats the Tigers would not cool off their shooting stroke in the second half as LC felt like they could not buy a basket at points during the second. After erasing an early eight-point lead in the second half, ETBU's shots continued to fall as they began to stretch their lead from three to 15 points in a matter of four minutes of game time.

Outside of the shooting woes for the Wildcats, they were also outnumbered in rebounds 40-24 and only went to the free throw line seven times as opposed to 20 attempts for the Tigers.

Kae'ron Baker turned in another 20-point game leading all scorers with 21 points, adding seven assists and five rebounds to his line. Travis Schultz was the only other Wildcats to reach double digits with 14 on the night.

The Wildcats take on LeTourneau Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Longview, Texas before returning to H.O. West Fieldhouse next Tuesday night.
