Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | LC Sports Information - Brad Welborn

Wildcats Downed by Patriots 74-63

Louisiana College women's basketball hosted the University of Texas at Tyler on Thursday night, in what could have been their final trip to Pineville. The Patriots will be moving to Division II next season and will take a 74-63 victory in H.O. West as a parting gift. The Wildcats were outmanned in the rebounding department by 17 in the loss. LC will host University of the Ozarks on Saturday afternoon in their next matchup.

The Wildcats seemingly put their slow start to games behind them on Thursday that had plagued them all season by jumping out to a 9-2 lead, making their first four shots of the game. The Patriots worked their way back close and took the lead on an and-1 basket with 3:08 left in the first. UTT took a 20-17 lead after the first quarter, which would grow to double-figures by the end of the second thanks to a 16-8 quarter, giving them the 36-25 lead at the break.

The Lady Cats trailed by double figures for much of the third quarter, but were able to cut it to an eight-point game on a trey from ReDeja McQuarn with 2:09 left. The Patriots though would get a long ball of their own to answer and finish the quarter still up by 10. The Wildcats scored with the Patriots throughout the second half, matching them point-for-point but could not get the defensive stops they needed in the second half to close the gap.

Three Wildcats scored in double digits in the game with Kourtney McGhee leading the way with 19 on 8-of-16 shooting. McQuarn added 17 with freshman Jayla Landrum putting in 16.

LC will play their final home game for over a week on Saturday afternoon as they host Ozarks. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
