Cru Cruises Past Cats

The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats faced off against the Cru of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon in Belton, TX, for an American Southwest Conference clash.

Three Cru goals in the first and a fourth in the second half secured the victory.

It did not take long for UMHB to take the lead. In the fourth minute, with the first shot of the game,  Madison Link opened the score sheet with a right-footed finish on top of the penalty mark past Haley Clark's out-stretched hand.

The second came in less than two minutes, in the sixth minute Chelsea Graham doubled the Cru lead with a blasted shot to Clark's near post.

The Cru did not slow down after the early lead. Chelsea Graham made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute after breaking from a Wildcat defender and then beating Clark with her shot.

It was not until the 30th minute the Wildcats were able to record a shot. Val Rodriguez fired from range, but a Cru defender blocked the shot. In the 34th minute, Maylen Mire fired from inside the 18-yard box, but Emily McMaude kept her out.

The Cru had ten shots and nine corner kicks in the first half, controlling the flow and possession of the game.

The Cru picked up right where they left the game in the second half, starting back with the fourth goal in the 63rd minute. Elissa Freberg headed in her first goal of the game after Chelsea Graham crossed in a ball from the right side.

Graham's goal would be the final, but the Cru did not stop fighting for another. Five more shots came after the goal, Clark saved four and two corners also followed.

The LC defense and Clark had their hands full the entire night, facing 14 corners and 20 shots; Clark kept out nine shots on the night.

Rodriguez had two shots, both blocked, and Mire had one shot, (1 sog).

The Cats head home for the in-state rival, Centenary College Tuesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium at 5 p.m. Then return to ASC play when Hardin-Simmons and McMurry come to Pineville Thursday and Saturday.
