The Louisiana College Wildcats' were in action Saturday afternoon when the Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne Univ. rolled into town for an American Southwest Conference matchup.
After an hour rain and lightning delay, HPU put away the Cats with three goals.
Three different Yellow Jackets tallied a score, in the 14th minute, Kaitlyn Harrison opened the scoresheet with a side-footed finish past
Lexi Tate after receiving a long through ball from Dayane Gutierrez.
Lesly Garia added to the lead in the 54th minute after breaking away from a defender and getting a shot off, initially being blocked by Tate, but the ball fell back to her for an easy tap-in.
Closing out the rainy game; Brittany Cortez made it three in the 87th minute with a half-volley after Mariah Gonzales' shot hit off the goal frame.
The scoreline did not match the story of the game for the Cats, stints of possession and a revival late in the second half where not properly represented with a scoreless night.
LC put up 12 shots with five on goal from six different players.
Molly Edelman led the team with six shots, (4 sog) and
Ashlynn Folse with two shots, (1 sog) and one hitting the post.
The Cats led the game with six corner kicks, one more than HPU, and also in saves, Tate with six and Delaney Castor with five.
The Cats hit the road Thursday, September 27th, traveling to Round Rock, TX to face Concordia University then the Univ. of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon; both are ASC games and start at 5:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
