The Louisiana College Wildcats faced off against the University of Texas at Dallas Comets in an American Southwest Conference matchup Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium.
Two first-half goals proved to be too much for LC to hold on.
The game started well for both sides, evenly working the ball into the opposites half but strong defenses kept the game scoreless.
The first mistake came by LC, giving up a long ball from Merek Byckovski to Jovi Munoz in the 17th minute to break the scoreline. Munoz controlled the pass and took on a defender and slotted his shot past LC keeper
Evan Barker for the first goal.
Oliver Hamby did the same minutes later in the 20th. Receiving the ball around midfield on LC's half, and sped down the right side taking on anyone that stepped to him. Eventually, reaching Barker and calmly dribbled past him and passed the ball in for the second score.
LC had chances, but the final product was not enough. Three Wildcat shots landed between the posts in the first half, but Comet keeper Max Dier saved all three.
The Dallas mid-field swarmed on just about every ball that came into their half making LC's day difficult. Stints of possession came and went, the Cats defended for the first 45 minutes.
The second half did not start well for LC, missing two shots while facing a continued Dallas attack. Dallas broke through in the 60th minute for the final goal with a close-range finish after beating a defender.
Jesse Ardila found Munoz inside the box and after quick footwork, slipped past a couple of Wildcats and then Barker for this second and the third and final goal of the night.
The night fell quiet after that for the Cats, remaining on high alert with wave-after-wave of Comet counter-attacks and changing points of attack trying to stay in the game but the game was too far out of reach.
Barker saved three shots out of 17, (6 sog), while
Ian Carter,
Alex Okuma,
Evan Norwood, and
Alexie Nava each finished with one shot.
The Cats fell to 1-1 in ASC play with another opportunity Saturday afternoon against the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets to improve in the conference; the game is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. For more LC Men's Soccer Team follow them on Facebook under Louisiana College Men's Soccer, for Instagram and Twitter at LC_MSOC.
